Laser cutting is a thermal cutting process with which heat is introduced into the material being cut.

Cutting steel with oxygen (O2) causes an exothermal reaction, which accelerates the melt-cutting.
Oxide-free cutting of stainless steel under high-pressure nitrogen (N2) does have the disadvantage of slower cutting.

Both cutting methods can be applied for flat-cutting, rotary cutting or when cutting profiles, yet they do have their limitations due to material thickness and type. Waterjet cutting forms the alternative for this.
